When we wished to raise this money, the best offer we were able to obtain for it by our own brokers was 95 10s. After considerable negotiation with a financial institution in London, which made a condition which we could not with prudence accept with other business, 97 was the best offer we could get. I then took the trouble to interview the chairman of the Bank of England, and the offer then made was a guarantee of 97 10s.--J per cent, for costs, anything above that to come to the oolony. At that time our fifty years 3-percents were being qucted at 1011. Since that they have been up to 101 We should not require to lose anything at all if we simply issued the stock, as there is a demand for it, as we are issuing our present 3-per-cent. stock, but to have two different currencies would result in this, and this is what our advisers represented: Mr. Scrimgeour tells us that that would have the effect of bringing down the other stock.
